CRANES!
These sandhill cranes migrate up the Mississippi River from Mexico every year. They stop by Platte River, NE to feed and breed. I had a great opportunity to see them. It was incredible.

Blue Jay Way
Such beautiful birds. They’re a little feisty and sound like an angry flying mule, but they’re so vibrant. The blue comes from light refracting off of the feathers rather than pigments

Baby Snapping Turtle

Harbingers of Spring
For the past couple weeks the House finches have returned to my balcony to make their nest. From what I understand they are an invasive species where I live, but I will be doing more research to confirm. I laid on my living room floor for about 20min with my camera taking pictures of them while drinking my coffee. I The red plumage of the male finch is especially captiviating.

Welcome!
This is my first post on my website. Tall Grass Encounters is meant to be half a photoblog of my day-to-day life, and half a dispassionate list of every living thing I stumble across. Hopefully, I can increase in photography skill and wildlife knowledge on this journey and I hope you can all grow with me! Additionally, Some of these initial posts may not be in chronological order as I work through a back catalogue of photos. -Mina
